There was a relatively late night of packing yesterday as crammed all we could into various bags. In the morning, we said goodbye to this familiar view.
I then got a nice reminder on my phone as to what we should do next!
For once, the British roads were clear of traffic and before we knew it, we were boarding the train to France.
That night we stopped near Reims after some fine foods along the way.
We carried on south on Wednesday, stopping only to brew up.
And make splendid sandwiches!
By mid-afternoon, the mountains of the Mt Blanc Massif came into view...
And by early evening, we'd arrived in Chamonix, found our apartment (and the owner to let us in!), and had begun to unpack..
The view from the outside terrace is incredible and looks straight up at the Aigulle du Midi (on the left) and Mt Blanc (on the right). The Glacier Bossons comes almost down to the village!
We took a short walk after dinner to see our new neighbourhood and found this place right around the corner! Ha ha!
We didn't walk far as we were both very tired from the drive and were looking forward to a lovely long sleep. We were just getting ready for bed, when a friend called to see if I wanted to go climbing tomorrow. It was with mixed emotions that I agreed, as he wanted to take an early cable car up high. "OK", I said, frantically searching for my crampons among the bags of food and kit, "see you at 06:30 tomorrow then"... I can always sleep tomorrow night....
