Local Mines and Gorges

A fantastic day! All within a 10km round trip from The Cottage.

Firstly, after some planning with the map and a pair of binoculars, we found one of Wales' best secret picnic spots! It was hot work getting to it, but we were rewarded with a sheltered sun trap with the perfectly angled rock for sitting up against. Lunch was an extended affair as it was so comfortable!

And we'd got some treats with us too, thanks to Clare's birthday hamper! (thanks Pat & Bob!)

The next part of the adventure was to explore some old mines that we'd discovered.

We had a nose inside but didn't dare venture too deep, without the proper equipment. Spooky!

Back out in the sun, the views were tremendous.

Then it was back on foot to the next phase of discovery!...

Through the last of the bluebells fields...

And down by the river.

And eventually to the secret gorge! A hidden, super-deep area that was just asking to be swam in.

After chilling by the gorge, watching some grey-wagtails and a woodpecker, I cooled off with a wonderful swim up the gorge canyon before setting off through the ancient oaks.

And before too long, we were back by our familiar view. Happy to be home from our mini-expedition.
