A very nice introduction to Arctic life today with the team - one of whom enjoyed a very memorable 18th birthday experience!
After a brief walk into Kiruna town to visit the local market and snow sculptures, we traveled to the nearby Ice Hotel, where we went all out for the birthday celebrations. Starting with a fabulous birthday lunch, then followed by an incredible cake and colourful cocktails!
We also had a good look around the hand-sculpted bedrooms of the hotel. Each has its own individual artistic design. In the afternoon, we met out Husky guides and of course the dogs who would be with us over the next week. Even though the skies were clear and starry, we didn’t see the northern lights to finish off the perfect birthday, but a traditional sauna and dash into the snow was a good consolation prize.
So far it’s been hands down the most luxurious ‘expedition’ I’ve ever led, but tomorrow, we’ll be ‘down with the dogs’ and setting off into the wild....
