There was a real holiday vibe in the air today as we ventured out to the sun soaked west coast of Anglesey. Following a tip-off from a friend, we were searching out an area of coastline and cliffs that we'd not visited before - despite it being only a twenty minute walk from the beach where we got married!
The coast was perfectly sheltered from the light easterly wind and the views were stunning as we followed the coastal path and then down onto the rocks. A low tide is required to easily access the base of the cliff and we were right on time, with calm seas too.
The rock was great for climbing, but required a bit of fiddling when it came to placing gear.
As the guidebook says 'expect to be twiddling in cams or sideways nuts' into the limited fissures, cracks and gas pockets in the rock.
To save time, after the first route, we left an abseil rope in place so that we could quickly and easily return to the base of the sheltered, sunny, sunbathing platform.
We didn't see a soul all afternoon, the water was flat calm and the rock warm and pleasant. A real mid-week holiday, just forty minutes drive from The Cottage. What a find!
And it really was warm enough to be climbing in T-Shirts!
Just before we left, I could resist the pull of the sea no longer! There was a deep channel at the base of the cliff that was getting deeper as the tide came in. The turquoise waters lured me in - but not for long!
