Poppies and a Half-Day Holiday

We'd decided to have a leisurely start today and let the heavy rains of the night pass by. By the time we were up and about things were brightening up nicely.

Especially after a holiday breakfast of Banana Pancakes and fresh coffee!

We had booked tickets to go and see the Poppy display called the Weeping Window at the nearby Castle of Caernarfon. They are the same poppies that were displayed at the Tower of London for Remembrance day a few years ago and looked spectacular.

They gave the impression of a waterfall, pouring from the top of one of the towers.

We spent a while exploring the various towers and tunnels and enjoying the views from the high points. You could see right across the mountains and out to sea over the Menai Straits.

Afterwards, we had the choice of hanging out in the sunny town square of Caernarfon, or checking the beach. Although it was windy, I was keen for some exercise, so we went to get in for a quick surf before returning back to The Cottage to get some work done. The waves were a bit all over the place, but we both got some good rides on some surprisingly big waves that rolled in every now and then. We pretty much had the place to ourselves as well. Just another friendly surfer and a beginner kayak team in the shallows. Although it was a bit choppy, it was great to be out - especially with the warmth of the sun. It's always worth getting in....
