On the England Coast Path - Newcastle Tourists

After our anniversary mini-break in Milford, we continued our travels north, over the famous bridge, to meet, Andy, Jonelle and Cece at a town that I've never been to before - Newcastle.

We were given a full tour of the sights and to be fair, there are some impressive buildings!

The new bridge looks like it was just placed over the old historic buildings!

Found out a bit about 'Earl Grey' of tea fame..

Checked out the Cathederal...

And plenty of bridges...

For lunch, we crossed over the river to Gateshead for some trendy local grub, which was delicious!
Back over the Millennium bridge - a very clever design, which can tilt and lift up to let boats through.

After a morning in the city, our tour guides (Andy and Jonelle!), took us out to the coast at Tynemouth.

Although the wind was Baltic, it was sunny enough to need sunglasses on (and two down jackets!)

We set off on the coastal path and went all the way to Cullercoats.

Past a few keen surfers! If only we had thought to bring our boards... but then again it was freezing!

We followed the waters edge on the hard sand (the buggy sank in the soft stuff!).

Then on finding a sheltered harbour, the ever prepared Clare, produced swimsuits!

It's had to tell from the photo below just how cold it was!

Clare strode straight in, but I had to return to land twice, before Clare convinced me to get back in for an 'official' swim in the north sea! While we were larking about in the bay, Andy very kindly went back and got the car for us and we warmed up with a post swim buzz and hot drinks in the sun outside a cafe.

Then to finish off a wonderful day, we had a very nice dinner with hosts Jackie and Graham, before crashing out, utterly exhausted in a nearby hotel. The Newcastle Experience got thumbs up from us.
