A Day in Durham

Our travels in the North of England continued with a delightful day out in Durham! Like Newcastle, neither of us had ever been there, so were happy to wander through and see what we could see. After exiting the car park, we soon found ourselves above the river, where the rowing club were training.

We followed our noses into the centre of town, which is packed full of historic university buildings.

The Cathedral is amazing and well worth a look.

By now, it was time for brunch, so following a ringing endorsement by a guy who was just leaving, we took the best sun soaked seats at 'Cafe Dral' (say it fast a few times - it's by the Cathedral) for a well earned brunch.

We ended up chatting with the owner and stayed for cream scones after our sausage butty brunch! It was so hot in the little suntrap, that we were reluctant to leave!

With some local tip-offs from the café owner, we explored further into the town and around the castle and cathedral.

Our journey ended up back at the river, where we were able to follow the meander, along the waters edge, back to where we'd started earlier that morning.

With the glorious weather in full effect, we decided we were not quite ready to go yet, so settled into a bridge top gin bar (for posh ginger beers!) in the afternoon sun, while we psyched up for the journey back to Wales!
