Climbing on Dinas Mot, Llanberis Pass

Really got the most out of days alpine conditions, but only just. It's so busy in the National Park at the moment that at 09:30, we got the last parking spot in the Pass! Having squeezed the van into the layby, we both heaved a sigh of relief as that would have ended the day before it had started and it was not the kind of day to waste! The crag loomed up above us and was even bathed in morning sunshine. We walked up knowing that now the parking spots were full at least no one would be chasing us up there!

We started off on 'The Cracks' which has some great climbing, but weaves about a bit.

The rock is excellent and the positions nice and airy.

From the summit, we abseiled down the left hand gully (facing in), back to the bags, off some confidence inspiring fresh tat. Our friend Rusty had just arrived at the base of the cliff with some clients, so we had a sociable lunch together before setting off on our respective next routes. This time on the other side of the rock (Westerns Slabs). Another fantastic three pitches of climbing.

You need 60m ropes to abseil this side of the Mot in one long ride and thankfully we'd remembered this before we left home. There were lots of Butterwort in flower at the base.

The Lake in Llanberis was our choice rather than doing another route, but on the way, called in to see Ed in Nant Peris. It was so warm that once again, no wetsuits were required at the lake and we swam out to get the view of Snowdon after diving off the Pontoon.

To warm up and shake off the shivers that the cold water had produced, we had a cuppa in the sunshine outside Pete's Eats and were joined by Bex who happened to be passing by too. It felt like we were in an alpine cafe, sitting outside with table service, chatting, soaking up the heat and watching the world go by! Then to complete an incredibly social day, we were invited to a BBQ, just up the road from where we were sat! We arrived back at The Cottage 13 hours after setting out for a quick climb!

Dinas Mot Climbs, Llanberis Pass:
