Skyline Slates & Snorkel Swims

For the first time in many months, there was a glimmer of normality in the air. It was a wonderfully warm day, so we decided to head over to the quarry for pretty much the first time this year. We are still feeling very lucky to have so much outdoor recreational space around us in our local area. Funnily enough, the relatively quiet area of the quarry where we chose to climb, a few other local friends had had the same idea. We were easily all able to 'keep away' for each other, but stay close enough to enjoy some welcome chat and share each other news. And as no one else in the country can travel, we knew all the climbers are they were all locals!

It felt brilliant to be standing on tip-toes, gripping onto tiny edges and clipping bolts.

The whole thing felt extremely novel!

The weather forecast had predicted rain arriving in the afternoon, so we had dashed into the quarry expecting to only do a single climb, before returning home, but as it turned out, the clouds parted and the temperature rose and rose. We only had a small bottle of water between us so were soon parched.

After three fantastic climbs and a good bit of social interaction, we decided to get back to The Cottage for some food and water.

After dinner, the heat still remained, so we went up to the river for an evening swim, which was completely idyllic. It was still above twenty degrees when we got in at around 9pm.

We wore shorty wetsuits so that we could 'survive' a bit longer - I also took the snorkel with me which was brilliant. No coral reef colours, but it did see plenty of big fish! An absolutely mega way to finish the day. Got back home at 10pm exhausted, thoroughly chilled to the core and buzzing.
