Moel y Don by Bike

It was pouring down with rain all morning and we've now even had a few heavy hail showers. I was teaching all morning, so it didn't really matter (except that the rain hammering on the skylight above my head was drowning out my voice at times!). After a late lunch, it was beginning to brighten, so after a few days of relative in-activity, we decided to cycle down to the Menai Straits. We're beginning to run short of 'new terrain' to cover but still managed to travel down a few previously uncharted back roads to get to Menai Bridge. Once onto the Island, we turned west and followed the coast past Plas Newydd, before turning down to the beach and slipway at Moel y Don.

We spent over an hour, watching birds through the binoculars, watching the odd fishing boat come and go and generally nattering away. It was not a swimming kind of day (or a good spot for it) and instead of ice creams, we had flasks with hot drinks in. It was nice to be seeing a different view. Across the water we could see the house where we used to live. Somehow, it was suddenly gone 6pm, so we made our way home as directly as we could. It was a shame that there wasn't a small bike ferry across to Felin. The mountains looked dark and threatening, but we stayed dry. We got home at about 8pm. Our quick bit of exercise had somehow turned in to a 48km ride. No wonder we were both so tired when we got in. Early to bed...
