Luz-Saint-Sauveur

We've finally arrived in the Pyrenees and have spent the day recovering from the drive and getting to know our new local neighbourhood of Luz-Saint-Sauveur.

The view from the balcony was looking much better when we woke up and the temperatures a pleasant mid-twenties.

Despite being a Sunday, there were still quite a few shops open as we walked around the old town. It's mostly made up of narrow streets, old churches and a little citadel. We're going to be based here for at least the next week, and it looks like we'll get on just fine here.

The village is on the side of a very narrow and deep gorge.

At the bridge by our house, we resisted the offer of a 90m bungee jump, but were happy to watch with an ice cream!

Further rest and relaxation came in the form of a mini-golf tournament in the gardens of the appartment!

It's quite view from the fairway of the 9th hole.

Clare got a hole in one on the 10th, but I managed to fluke my way back into the lead after a lucky shot through some tunnels later.

The area was in its prime at the start of the 1900s, with Royal visits being standard in the summertime. It's a shadow of its former glory now and all but deserted, but the buildings still have an air of grandeur.

On a walk back to the appartment, we stopped for an evening drink at a terrace bar that over hung the gorge.

There's plenty of rock climbing for us to be going at, but with only a guidebook written in French and a map of the area, we finished the day planning out possibilities and objectives. Exciting to be somewhere new!...
