Blue sky and calm greeted us on our final morning in the Chili Apartment. After our earliest rise yet, we were packed up and checked out by 10am and drove straight down to the Château Sainte Marie in Luz.
Oh, and last night, before bad light stopped play, we had our last golf tournament which ended on a complete tie, although not our best score after getting stuck on Hole 8 for a while.
We missed the tiny track that led to the cliff base on our first attempt and ended up at the top of the cliff at the Château. This was no bad thing though as the views were great.
A bit of bushwhacking, got us onto the vaguest of paths, which with a bit of intuition and a few scratches, got us to the base of our cliff. It was wildly overhanging! I very kindly suggested that Clare go first to get the ropes up!
To be fair, it was well bolted, but much steeper than anything we'd normally get involved with. After an initial set of steep but good handholds, there was an intimidating smooth overhang. Bold moves were required on small slopes before bigger things presented themselves. It was a sterling lead, which I also just about managed, before Clare did it again.
After all the drama on the rock, we were so pumped that we had to call it a day! The sun had also moved onto the face so we also had the excuse of it being a bit too hot! Down in town though, all was cool as we explored the streets and Jazz festival that was on.
The first band were a bit too rowdy to fit the 'Jazz' catagory, so we browsed a few shops while listening in.
We then managed to get a seat outside a central bar, where we could watch some saxophone 'electronica' jazz, while having a chat and sipping a cold drink. Felt a bit like the back stage passes I've become accustomed too recently.
To finish the weekend vibe, we found a delicious pizzeria before walking back to our campsite on the edge of town. First night back under canvas in a while for us. Beautiful spot to get back into camp life though...
