Granite climbing at Pont d'Espagne

Above Cauterets is an area called Pont d'Espagne. There are crags on the way up there, but they were suffering from a lot of drainage and were soaking wet. At the end of the road is a massive car park (€6.50) and trails to various waterfalls.

Just up and off from the beaten track is a series of good granite cliffs. Well bolted too, with proper, sturdy bolts! Hoorah!

We went to a single pitch sector and set to work, climbing six great routes each during the day.

The sun shone and the views were great. There were also enough clouds about to keep the temperatures reasonable. Great cragging conditions in a stunning setting.

Ambitiously, after clearing up at our crag, we started walking to a higher area, but soon changed our minds and went down to camp for a big feed instead!

The walk down took us over this narrow gorge.
