Climbing at Città dei Sassi

A short drive from our village is the Sella Pass, home to some fantastic panoramas and some pretty decent climbing as well.

The crags of Città dei Sassi are scattered around the hillside here, and although only small compared to the surrounding peaks, are still home to some great routes and the perfect place to get a feel for some dolomitic climbing. The meadows are still carpeted with flowers, like when I was here in June, but this time different ones are in bloom, including loads of Eidelwiess.

The limestone here is great for climbing; with sharp edges and pockets in abundance. And very well bolted too, with lots of new, well placed bolts and every route even had a lower-off clip, so you don't even have to re-thread the rope. Holiday climbing!...

We chose a cliff that was in the shade to give us the perfect climbing temperature - it was too hot to climb in the sun.

After climbing seven routes, we decided to call it a day and head home for coffee and cake on the balcony. There was plenty of time left in the day, but not so much strength left in our arms!

It's a quick walk back to the car park at the Col, so we soaked up the views for a bit before leaving.

This is our new home for the summer! After a brew, I took a stroll through the village and apparently there is a festival here this weekend!
