Low Pike

There were some sleepy heads in the hut this morning, with myself included! Slushy rain was beating on the windows as we ate breakfast and tried to psych up for another day in the hills. To their credit, everyone in the group pitched in to get the hut tidied and us out in a reasonable time given our fatigued state!

Low Pike (with the option of continuing on up High Pike) was selected as our objective for the day. We started our walk from Ambleside, where amazingly there was free parking! What a Christmas treat! We set a brisk pace out of the village and were soon out on the open hillside. As predicted, the weather was constantly changing as snow showers blew through, followed by rainbows, hail flurries, blue skies then more snow flakes. The views were great, especially when the beams of sunlight shone through the clouds.

At the summit of Low Pike, we decided to call it a day and descend via the path by the riverside. The pace had slowed and although the next peaks looked inviting, we still had to save some energy to drive back to Wales! Coffee stop back in the Ambleside, then time to take on the M6!
