Our well placed summer residence means that there are a few good options for nearby evening cragging after a day spent mostly on the computer.
The nearest crag is up in the woods behind the chalet. It used to be the main route through the higher pass and there are still the remains of the old Toll House on the way. The walk to the cliff was short but very steep - my legs were not used to going uphill!
The crag is limestone and made up of pockets and runnels. We opted for some of the lower grade pitches to get used to the style. Balance and friction are key!
A two pitch route at the far edge of the crag gave great views of the surrounding hillside which is heavily forested. Two abseils got us back to the bags at around 19:30, where we decided to head down for dinner.
