The Long March

The day started brightly and although everyone was exhausted from the previous day, knowing that a storm was inbound for the afternoon provided the motivation to get up and moving.

Judging by the lack of track or path, I’d say that we were the first humans to travel this way in quite a while.

The way ahead was unknown and John and I were both glad to find a way over the col and I to the next valley with out any major obstacles.

Behind us we could see the loch we had traversed and the horizon we’d climbed. It sure looked a long way!

Safely into the next valley, spirits were picked up by having a hot lunch in the shelter of a Bothy. There was even electric lights and a kettle!

Outside, before setting off, we met the Estate Manager, who filled us in on a bit of history and some hunting knowledge, which was a real treat.

Finally, the welcome sight of Glenfinnan’s railway bridge came into view and not long after, the minibus.

Hot showers and an evening ‘feasting’ and story telling ensued as we looked back over the events of the epic journey feeling suitably impressed with our efforts!
