Welsh Alpine Ridge Scrambling on Cneifion Arete, Diff***

A very strong and very cold south easterly wind has been blowing across Snowdonia for the last few day and although the skies have been mostly clear, the wind chill temperatures have been double figures in the minus. A mountain day was going to require a few layers of clothing, a sheltered route, direct sunshine and constant movement.

The sun soaked ridge of Cwm Cneifion gave us just what we were looking for and after pitching the first steep section, we moved together along the ridge in the sun and sheltered from the wind. It all felt rather alpine! Here are some pics from our journey...

Arriving at the level ground at the top, known as 'the football pitch', the wind was ferocious and freezing!

And temperatures not helped by a light covering of snow on the ground!

Although the views were good, it all felt rather brutal, so we ducked back down the gully by Pinnicle Crest Route, which was a bit loose, but much much warmer as it was sheltered and in the sun. Back home in time for afternoon coffee! Mega!
