The Deluge...

Over a period of about 48 hours, we've had more rain than has fallen all summer accompanied by high winds that have brought down several big trees in the area. The dark clouds have blocked out all the sunlight making it feel dark all day!

Just nipping outside to the woodshed was an expedition that required a change of clothes afterwards.

I didn't have the chance to get the kayak out and to be honest, for a while, the rivers were too big to paddle on. This is the Ogwen down at Scout Hut bridge.

Even driving was made difficult with the buffeting winds.

Having cancelled most activities, I took a team out to the climbing wall, which was as busy as I've ever seen it. There can't have been a single climber in the mountains this weekend?

On the way home I stopped to check the 'get in' point for the Ogwen. The water was only just fitting through the bridge and up-stream, the boulder that I use as a gauge for the river levels was completely submerged!

The rain gauge in at The Cottage was full to the brim - that's 120mm of rain!! We cancelled all evening plans, kept the river lit, battened down the hatches and stayed put.
