Sunset Surfing

The calm after the storm finally arrived this afternoon and with it, some glassy green waves. We made it to the beach just before sunset and surfed some fantastic waves into the darkness. It felt very calming sitting out to sea, waiting for the next set of waves and soaking up the views. The sunset was spectacular, with the clouds all glowing pink on the horizon. Overhead, three big chevrons of geese flew south, following each other as silhouettes. It was quite a moment that was topped off by whooping our way along some perfectly peeling waves. It was dark as we got changed and the temperature was plummeting. As we drove back to The Cottage, the thermometer dipped to two degrees.

And all that was after a day of kayak skills coaching on the lake!

After the damp start to the day, the lake was nice and calm and considerably bigger than normal since the rain had stopped falling, with the picnic benches all half submerged.
