Tropical Storm

While out to sea on our morning dip we watched with fascinating as the skies darkened into some fantastic clouds and colours.

Soon enough, heavy rain drops started to fall.

It was a really quite an eery scene. All was calm and the raindrops tinkled and splashed as they bounced off the waters surface.

As we were already wet, we stayed for a while to be part of the experience! The clouds turned black and the water a deep green. Soon the horizon merged into the sea.

The plan for the day had been to drive up to the north shore of the island, but this was curtailed for a number of reasons. First and most importantly, about 20 minutes into the journey, smoke started billowing out from under the hood (read bonnet!).

This unexpected drama, may have actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as as we limped back to base, the tropical storm arrived in full force! The waves of the north shore must have been impressive, but it was not the weather for a scenic drive!

We returned to the house and got there just in time as the roads began to flash flood and the wind picked up. The intensity of the rain was astonishing. Clare and I went back down to the beach in the thick of it all to sea the sea. It had changed completely. Debris littered the beach and waves pounded the shore. After a jog along the sand, we body surfed some of the waves in the shallows, before walking back to the house for a ‘local brew’.

With no sign of an abating storm, we hunkered down and got involved with some serious card playing.

The local weather report said that over 4 inches of rain had fallen in a couple of hours! Incredible!

The cards championship carried on into the night. As lighting flickered outside....
