Happily, we arranged to meet at 11am, so while they drove up from Devon, we were still sleeping! A leisurely start indeed, and well needed even without late night dancing last night! Along with a few other friends, we took the most direct way up the mountain that we could find, which managed to include some sections I don't think I've climbed before?! It was the perfect way to catch up on news, get some exercise and enjoy the fresh air and views. Classic Grade 1 scrambling! It wasn't long before we found the Cannon Stone (recognise it Mom?).
As we gained height, the shadow below showed the exaggeratedly steep profile of the mountain on the other side of the valley.
When we arrived at the summit (and into the glorious sunshine), cloud was pouring in from the west, creating a dramatic panorama below us.
Without a breath of wind, we were able to enjoy a relaxed lunch in the sunshine, lapping up the views. (and wishing we didn't have to hike back down!)
Eventually, we decided to ought to head down, so chose the west gully for ease and speed. It turned out to be less than an hour back to the road. Chatting always helps take your mind off the effort and there was plenty to catch up on - and much nicer than sitting around drinking tea when the weather is so good!
All in all a great day out and about, with great weather, great scrambling; but more importantly, great friends.
