Race against the Rain...

Rain has been forecast all day and the threat has been around since this morning, but it didn't materialise.... until later.... We decided that we might just have time to sneak a route in late this afternoon, so headed into the quarries under overcast skies. We got the ropes out in the 'Serengetti Area', just as single rain drop landed on my arm. Clare had climbed the route plenty of times before and decided that she could get to the top before the weather got any worse so set off...

Half way up and she encountered some 'light drizzle'. Not ideal for climbing slate. She had to choose, up or down and made the decision to move fast to the top. A team had completed the route before us, and she was up at the top of the cliff before they'd even walked back down to the base! Mega fast climbing! And she managed to place plenty of gear along the way (first time placements essential!). The rain eased a bit as I followed up to her, where she was buzzing in a 'got away with it' style.

We were soon back at the bags and our next move was decided by the incoming clouds. Minutes later we were pretty wet and heading home. A climb 'well snatched'!
