The threat of rain has loomed large for most of the day, but it has amazingly remained dry. Last night's heavy rain has been evaporating hard, causing thick mists - I needed the lights on driving in the van in the afternoon! But the moisture has at least sent the leaves and flowers into bloom. Out on the track, the first wild strawberries are ripening up.
I nipped back into Ogwen and up to Milestone Buttress again this evening for a bit of evening solitude. This time around to the west face, where the cliffs were deserted and where only the mists were swirling around.
I went up a few of the easier routes, enjoying the movement, solitude and atmosphere. The rock was warm and bone dry and my boots felt extra sticky after their 'wash' yesterday in the rain.
On top of the crag, the sun finally broke through the clouds and the evening light was fantastic.
By the time I'd got back to The Cottage, the skies had pretty much cleared, necessitating another outdoors meal. There were a few midges around, so we fired up the chiminea, which did a good job at keeping them at bay.
