Dolomites Acclimatisation

After a crazy couple of days travelling across Europe and some serious sleep deprivation, I woke this morning to be greeted with this view from the door of my tent. The journey had been worth it at least!

I'm leading a weeks trekking course, so to start off we went for some acclimatisation around the Passo Falzagero. A cable car whipped is up to 2700m where we got some fantastic views of our local neighbourhood!

From the top station, we enjoyed an easy trail along to an even better vantage point, before returning to the Pass.

There is still a decent amount of snow about that will limit our high level options this week, but there is still plenty to do and see.

After descending, we made an ascent of nearby Sass di Stria 2477m (also called Hexenstien). It was a bit late in the day to be going for a summit, but the clouds weren't looking too threatening, so we scooted up past all the old war trenches and fortifications. We made good progress, but I had to make the decision to turn back just below the summit as I was concerned about the building storms around us. Good job too as the thunder started up and we descended!

We made it down safe and dry, then went to a safe view point to watch the approaching storm which was fantastic to see! The contrast of light and dark sky was beautiful.
