Moel Eilio Circuit

Moel Eilio Summit

A lovely Sunday in the mountains. Thick blobs of cloud were covering much of the Glyders and the Carneddau this morning, so we opted to head east in search of better weather. The gamble paid off and we were lucky enough to spend the entire day in the sunshine, while looking across at most of the other peaks of Snowdonia which where topped with clouds.

After receiving some pretty bad beta, we started the adventures by driving our mini bus us a track that was not designed for minibuses! There was quite literally 2cm each side of the bus as we inched our way up the track, that had started off as a road. Through a gate and with grass in the centre of the road, we found ourselves committed to continuing upwards as there were no turning places and reversing was not an option! Luckily, we met no other cars (not surprisingly) and eventually found ourselves at a turning point where we parked up. Shaken, but not stirred. The van had only 365miles on the clock, so any scratches on it were definitely going to get noticed!

Upwards and onwards...

Once away from the trauma of the road (track!) we enjoyed a great walk up the broad ridge of Moel Eilio. We'd made good time, so continued onwards to Foel Gron and Foel Goch, before descending down through 'telegraph valley'.

The group had made such good time and were suitably please and exhausted, that we saw fit to celebrate our achievements (and the descent of the road unscathed!) with a well deserved round of hot chocolates in Pete's Eates in Llanberis. Great finish to a great days work.
