With more thunderstorms on the way, we decided to get up and out early for a run up to the village of Grise. Although it’s usually an all weather activity, neither of us wanted to be out in a monster storm, so just in case we set out early from the chalet.
It was a tough climb up with 420m of height gain and about 6km of distance to get to the village, through forest tracks above a steep ravine. We mostly ran, but had to walk the steepest parts, as neither of us have done much running recently!
The return journey downhill was much easier, although far from ‘east’ after running so far! We arrived back at the house just as the first peel of thunder sounded through the valley! Perfect timing! We went inside for showers and a huge feed, followed by lots of stretching and some well earned rest as the storm passed through. It rained a lot, but nothing like the other day.
After a rest, we took a walk through the village to stop our legs from ceasing up.
As it was open, we piped inside the church, which was seriously impressive!
Things brightened up later in the afternoon, so we went to the local crag of Oberroid to see if it looked any safer for climbing on (after the storm had lots of trees felled around it). We thought one area might be okay, but when we got there, the council (pretty sensibly to be fair), had put a sign up saying ‘No Climbing’ until they clear up the current devastation of fallen trees and rock that are currently at the base of the cliffs.
We got the blanket out instead and flicked through the guidebook for ideas for the next few days, while enjoying the quiet of the meadows.
