Greek Acclimatisation

There was a very pleasing view out of the bedroom window this morning - Christmas eve blue skies and flat calm seas. We went straight from bed, down the garden to the waters edge to soak it all up.

It turns out we also have a private jetty at the edge of the garden too!

We spent a while on the jetty, just sitting, looking and psyching up for a Christmas eve swim.

We could see loads of fish in the water and also an octopus, which put us off getting in for a bit!

The water was about as warm as the lake back home in autumn. Not warm, but not Baltic either. Once we were fully solar heated, we went for it, choosing to wade in rather than dive from the jetty as it looked tricky to climb back out from. It was a treat to walk back up to a hot shower when we got out!

There is a small island, called Bird Island just off shore - Clare was on her way there, but turned back. Maybe another day?!...

The morning was spent in a very relaxing way; swimming, eating and drinking!

Later in the afternoon, we decided to check out a tiny outcrop behind the house. There are only two climbs there and both are short, but it was a fun way to get back into the climbing groove. It was also worth walking up there just for the views!

Best of all was being able to climb outside without being wrapped up in fleece and duvets!

The climbs are only 3 bolts long so hardly worth travelling all this way for, but fitted with us getting a little buzz and a feel for the rock, without having to venture far away.

There was still enough daylight after doing the climbs for us to check out the town of Ermioni. It doesn't look much in this photo, but it involved driving down a ridiculously steep hillside with no switch backs - just straight down!

The little fishing harbour in town was stunning. Mirror calm...

And the water was so clear we could see loads of fish - even a few star fish!

In preparation for our Christmas dinner and celebrations, we picked some sweet treats out at the bakers. I chose the 'snowballs' which can be seen piled high on the right hand side. Icing sugar everywhere!

We walked along the waters edge until dark as the light was so good and the water so still.

As we were about to leave a marching band came past playing Christmas tunes! A fine finish to Christmas Eve!

Climbs at Dardiza, Ermionida:
