Considering it’s now November, the weather has continued to be kind to us and we set off into the morning from Wylam with our sunglasses on.
Todays route has kept us almost entirely on traffic free cycle routes and mostly following the River Tyne out towards the sea.
A stop for elevensis was declared due to us passing a well recommended Sicilian Cafe by the river.
It was a bit breezy to be sitting outside, so we got ushered in to a very comfy seat in the window where we could soak up the sunshine, see the river, keep an eye on our bikes while enjoying good coffee alongside a sausage and egg focaccia bap. Our quick stop happily lasted about an hour!
The next section of river took us into the centre of Newcastle to sights that we’d seen when visiting Andy and Jonelle earlier in the year.
As the sun was out and we were well in track, we stopped to have a rest at some funky seating that looked like boiled eggs.
While we were sat there enjoying the view, the parents of a pupil that I used to teach recognised me and came over to say hi! They even got a selfie with me to send to their daughter! Felt like a celebrity! Ha ha! We had a good chat before eventually moving on towards the sea and the final section of the day.
We stopped to check out some Roman Baths and found we only had 1110miles to go before reaching Rome!
The official Hadrian’s Wall ends just before the coast at Tynemouth.
We carried on around some beautiful marinas and expensive looking boat yard conversions.
We reached the sea, by this big fisherman.
By now the sun was beginning to get a bit low, so we followed the coastal promenade northwards past Cullercoats (where we’d swam in the sea on our previous visit).
There was some good looking surf at Whitley Bay. We watched a few surfers catching a wave before moving on to find our nearby guesthouse before it got dark.
Once again, the Mason Research Machine has provided us with some very agreeable digs. Stylish, comfy and near some cool places to eat and drink. A bar called The Ticket Office at the Station provided our evening’s entertainment…
Total Ride: 40km
