Journey to The Cottage

'Alpine August' has finally come to an end and we closed the door for the last time on our little chalet home for the summer.

We were on the road by 7am and heading north in a delicious smelling car after loading up with pastries from a final visit to 'Eric & Beatrice', our local bakers.

Not much to report from the drive, but were glad we left enough time for a few rest stops along the way.

Arrived into the UK and stopped at a hotel minutes before falling asleep after a 600mile day! Eyes stinging.

The following morning, we were treated to cream teas at Fort Martin as we 'passed by' Loddington.

Much better than a service station break!

After filling the last remaining space in the van with some home grown produce, we were back on the road later that afternoon.

Having left on something like the 3rd July, we arrived back at The Cottage at around 20:00 on 31st August! - But instead of returning to a musty and dusty, cobweb filled cottage, we opened the door to find a welcome home pack from our lovely house sitter! And more importantly, a shower and a freshly made bed!

Twelve hours later and I was biking off to some work meetings!

Feeling somewhat frazzled by the end of the day, we took ourselves down to the river as the sun was setting for a refreshing (much much colder than the alps!), dip.

What an incredible summer! Think we'll need the next week to recover and get unpacked...
