A few days of climbing and kayaking work timed nicely with a day off to celebrate my youth!
There was no rush to exit The Cottage in the morning, so after waking up to pressies and cards, we had a fantastic brunch of banana and kiwi pancakes.
It felt like the first real 'wet day' that we've experienced since before the summer, so had to adapt plans accordingly! There was no real surf to catch, so went inland through the valley to a lake we rarely visit.
Rain was still pouring down when we arrived, so we delayed getting out into the wet for a while, enjoyed the left overs from the previous evenings dinner, procrastinating and listening to the rain hammering onto the van roof.
In a brief respite, we burst from the van, inflated the paddleboards and set off to the cliffs on the far side of the lake.
Where we spent a very fun hour or so throwing ourselves into the warm(ish) waters!
We warmed up in a nearby cafe with tea, cheesy chips and a slice of cake before heading home in search of a hot shower.
The temperatures are still warm, despite the rain, but we lit the fire anyway when we got in. By the time some friends came around for dinner it was toasty and cosy. A fine celebration meal was prepared and enjoyed. A wonderful way to finish another year off and start a new one....
