There have been some superb morning skies this week and freaky shaped lenticular clouds over the mountains. Didn't managed to get any pictures though as I was usually drive. This one was out of the backdoor while I was having my breakfast.
Bex and I took a team of students around to the East Face of Tryfan on Sunday for a more 'exciting' route up to the summit. It's certainly still busy in the mountains as we pretty much had to queue to get up the first section of footpath! Once we skirted around the slower teams, we left the North Ridge route and continued to the East Face. At one point we had three other couple following us, who assumed we were going up the 'normal route' and had to turn back when they eventually asked where we were going!
There are plenty of goats on the mountains too these days!
We climbed the Little and North Gullies combination which gave exciting scrambling - helmets on, but without the hassle of needed a rope. What was even more impressive than the scrambling, was the fact that one of our group managed it without damaging some newly painted nails!
The nice thing about our route was that (as well as having the route to ourselves), was that it finished directly on the summit. The clouds had also cleared the top by the time we arrived.
We got down to Ogwen Cottage in good time, having made the effort to start a bit earlier than normal. This meant that we had time for a well earned cup of tea in the sunshine, while looking back up at Tryfan.
After leaving my group in Llandudno, I met Clare in Conwy, who had arrived there by bike. In the last of the light we shared a pizza down by the waters edge under the castle walls, before going to watch the new James Bond film in the Cinema - such a treat!
