After yesterday's city excitement, we woke with the feeling that we were going to need a rest to get over the 'rest day'! Climbing has really taken us to some incredible places over the years and we felt that we really ought to let the 'Rome Experience' sink in, before dashing off to find another cliff to climb. From the sunny apartment balcony, we spent a beautiful morning re-living and retracing the steps that took us to the Vatican City yesterday. It really was quite a lot to take in.
Later in the afternoon, we ventured out to the nearby cliffs of Sperlonga. The skies had clouded over a bit, but the temperature remained in the low twenties, so perfect for climbing.
There was a big team of Italian climbers who had come over from Rome for the day. They were super friendly and delighted to find a few visitors from Wales. They gave us loads of info for future trips here, included some 100m+ bolted sea cliff multi pitch adventures, which sounded really good.
We climbed until bad light stopped play, and only just made it back down to the beach before the clouds on the horizon stopped glowing an incredible red from the sun set.
Although the sun had dropped, the temperatures had not. In the last remaining light, we stripped off and went for a final swim to finish the day off. The water felt super warm and was an eerie milky calm. What a way to wash off the sweat and chalk after an afternoon on the cliffs!
