The Empty Valley.

It's been over a month now since I've been Cottage bound, but there is still plenty of new stuff to see and appreciate each morning. This little fella caught my eye today.

The big achievement of the day was getting the slate roof finished on the bike shed. Pretty pleased with it.

For today's exercise, we went back up the valley to Ogwen Cottage on the bikes - again using the main road. During the journey, we only saw one more car than we did cyclists - and there were only three of them!

We only stopped for a brief swig of water under Pen yr Ole Wen, then carried on to the base of Milestone Buttress, below Tryfan. We had the wind against us on the way up, but reached Ogwen Cottage in 36 minutes, which we were pretty pleased with,

On the cycle home, we rode side by side at top speed with the wind behind us - and were not passed by a single car! Astonishing. Such a contrast to two weeks ago, when the whole world seemed to be here. At least the message seems to be getting across.

Another project, that I am embarking on, is trying to get some of my early expedition slides on to the computer. I've unearthed a shoebox full! Should be some good reminiscing over the next week, as the slide boxes have some exciting labels on them, such as - Malawi '30, Peru '02 and '06, Kenya '01, Norway '03, Svalbard '96.....
