South for Winter

It was an early start, but an easy one. The hotel bed that we woke in, was only a few minutes walk to the check-in desk. With a croissant and coffee in hand, we handed over two heavy holdalls (one of which was a bit too heavy, but thankfully not so heavy that it caused any problems at the desk!). Free of the bags, we bypassed the long security queue and we soon taxiing down the runway. It felt like the evening, but the sun eventually came up and the rain soaked window dried up. We watched a movie and slept our way south.

When I next looked out the window, I could see the south coast of Spain emerging from the clouds - our home for the next few weeks.

We'll be moving around Andalusia for the remainder of the year, but our first stop was the small town of Ardales, where the roads are very small and very steep indeed - even when you are driving a Fiat Panda. This is the road on which we are staying and we had to do a three point turn to get around the corner onto the street! All good entertainment after a 04:45 start to the day!

The town is small, but they've made a seriously good effort with the Christmas decorations - all hand knitted by the townsfolk, in woollen crochet!

It was a pleasing 22 degrees down in Malaga. We stopped for some food shopping on the way here and are now well stocked. It's cooler up here, but it's good to be wearing sunglasses again. Feels like it's been a while. Rather than race off climbing, we decided to explore our new local neighbourhood. There's an old fort on the hill top at the top of town.

With no particular agenda, we strolled the narrow paved streets, soaking up the warmth.

There are some pretty cool buildings packed in here.

We took in the last of the light sitting on the church steps, just chatting and looking out over the hillside.

Then as the sun started to set, we made our way back home....
