Welsh Swimming

Swimming seemed to be the only activity option today. The weather has been as grim as it could have been with over 40mm of rain coming down between the early hours and midday. We set out through the mist and drizzle through the Ogwen Valley where white streams had burst out all over the mountain sides.

As we got changed into our wetsuits, the sun made an effort at making an appearance and the lake fell calm. Perfect conditions really. Sporting our team hats that we had to buy on a previous trip to Spain, where they were obligatory for pool use, we waded into the water.

It (as always) felt pretty cold to start, but we soon warmed up with some movement. The water was really clean and clear and we grinned at being the only people in the entire valley.

After swimming a rough course across to the far side and back, we got changed and soaked up the quiet.

It was a bit to late to get a brew at Betws y Coed, so after picking up some slabs of cake, we returned to The Cottage cafe where the slates had already begun to dry off. Coffee and cake was served outside, while the wetsuits drip dried. Nice style...
