Island Hopping to Møn

There's something great about being able to pack up all your worldly belongings into a couple of panniers and setting off in general direction without being certain on where you'll next stop.
The other good thing about cycle touring is that it doesn't take long to strike camp, pack and leave, because we don't have much stuff to pack and leave with! Boiled eggs on fresh rolls made for a delicious breakfast.

Heading north along the coast was magical. Some of the thatched houses that we passed every now and the seemed to be made from straw bales.

The trail was a little rough in places but our attention was on the calm sea that was next to us all the way. Had we not just started biking, we would have got in; we stopped here and there to enjoy the view, but kept moving.

While following the coast, we were inside a dense and mature old forest, full of oak and beech trees. It felt great to be riding.

Out of the enchanted forest, we passed through a few more quaint villages...

And past an impressive looking school.

Finally, we reached the town where we would get the ferry across to the small island of Bogø.

There was a small town square, a cafe with very comfy seats but terrible coffee, but most importantly, we discovered a fantastic bakery to get our pastry fix from. Delicious!

Feeling a bit better after the food and drink, but still tired from the mornings ride, we caught the tiny 13:30 ferry across the water.

It was a fun little ride that only took about 15 minutes. There is a bridge further up the coast, but bikes are not allowed. We were quite happy with that though as it looked a long way to bike to the bridge!

We wrapped up warm for the windy crossing as there was no shelter onboard.

Arriving on the other side, in Bogø, we found a great little place out of the wind and had some rest and a little more food. We planned to carry on riding over a bridge to an Island called Møn, but first we needed a break.

We felt much better an hour later and the sun had begun to make an appearance.

The bridge to Møn was long and low. There wasn't exactly a very big cycle path compared to our recent experience, but there was also very little traffic anyway.

We zipped across in top gear, feeling like well oiled machines!

Once onto Møn, we headed past a little church, in the direction of the beach and campsite.

All was quiet at the site, so we found ourselves somewhere to rest for the night and relaxed with a hot drink.

After using the camp kitchen to produce a fantastic evening meal of Thai red curry with chicken and broccoli, we walked along the beach (which was only 50m in front of the tent), to enjoy the sunset.

Another day, another island... In the distance, we could see the forest that we had cycled through that morning. Very satisfying indeed. After watching a few herons coming and going, we left for a long, deep sleep - after a through search of the tent for mosquitoes, which had been feasting on us earlier!

Total Ride: 58km
