Kendal Mountain Festival

It was too cloudy to see the official 'super moon' the other night, but as I made a late night dash up to the Lake District, the moon rise was enormous! And a spooky orange colour too. I'll admit that the photo above doesn't really do it justice, but even from the road, it was magic thing to observe. If I hadn't had so far to go, I'd have pulled over and watched it rise. As it turned out, I had to push on north...

I've been running some workshops for Rab Equipment and the Association of Mountaineering Instructors at the UKs biggest Mountain Festival in Kendal. I arrived at the festival site after a comfy night in the van somewhere near the M6 and started the long day with a swim at Kendal Leisure Centre to get psyched up. There was a real buzz around the town even though it was raining a cold sleety kind of rain when I arrived. We were running free question and answer sessions to climbers and offering short work shops on placing gear, building belays on our small demo wall and generally talking all things mountaineering.

In between the socialising, training and promoting, I also got a bit of product training from the 'tech girls' at Rab and now know the difference between my goose down and my duck down!

As social media plays such a big part of marketing products and brands, we were constantly getting photographed in action and featured on numerous twitter feeds etc while we were running the workshops.

As well as manning the stand, I also got to watch a few short films, and in the evening was invited to the BMC/Lowe Alpine private screening of a new film, which then led on to the DMM pub quiz, where I won a new climbing rope! Bonus!

Eventually, I had to bow out of the party (which was showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon), and take to the road to get back home. It had been a monster long day, especially with a three hour drive to finish it off! I was asleep before my head hit the pillow...
