Koalas at Port Macquarie

After a bit of a tumble in the surf yesterday, that resulted in my board and head making a sudden and violent contact, it turned out that I'd cracked my surf board! Rats! Well, I guess it's better that cracking my head. Luckily for me, there was a surf board shapers workshop a few minutes away, so the day started with dropping the board off to get some TLC..

While the board was 'at the doctors', went and checked out the local beach at Port Macquarie and found a good sunny spot to sit and check the plans for the coming weeks. While we were there, the local school turned up for their PE lessons - they had the choice of surfing, skateboard or jogging on the beach! Brilliant!

The waves weren't enticing enough for Clare to get in, so we went to check out the local Koalas! There is a Koala hospital on the edge of town, where we could get up close and see these elusive bears.

Quite a few looked pretty tired and not really up for entertaining us. But to be fair, that's probably just how I'd feel if I was in hospital though.

This little perky one gave us a wave though. They are pretty cute little things, but boy do they have some claws on them! We kept a healthy distance!

After checking a few more surf spots, we relaxed in the sun for a bit, before a quick trip through some swampy wetlands on another board walk.

Later, we picked up the repaired surfboard - which now looks as good as new! We certainly took it to the right person, as there is no trace of a fix and he even matched up the graphics on the side. Amazing job.

We decided to chip away at the drive north and have come up to Kempsey this evening, so that tomorrow we are in striking distance of 'Cresent Head', which we are told, is a great place to surf. It was a blinding sunset to be driving towards, but very beautiful...
