Made it to the famous Byron Bay today. It's a totally different vibe from anything that we've experience so far. Busy streets, bustling cafes, shops and expensive parking fees! That aside, it is another beautiful beach and despite the poor weather this morning, we still managed psych up enough to wriggle into our wet wetsuits and get out for a surf in the rain. It was much more sheltered than Yamba (we didn't bother getting in to the mushy waves there after breakfast), and Clare got some super long green glassy waves.
After a nice browse of the shops later in the afternoon, we returned to the beach for the sunset and were treated to an unbelievable light show, it the form of a massive double rainbow!
The colours were really bright and the rain clouds very dark!
And meanwhile, at the other end of the beach, the sun was setting in its own spectacular way.
We've paid (through the nose) to stay at the campsite right on the edge of the beach, so made the most of it by staying out until last light before walking home...
Later on that evening, we decided that seeing how we were camped amidst the hussle of the first hip and happening town that we'd come across in a while, we ought utilise our position and go see what was going on. We decided a walk through town and maybe an ice cream might be a good start, but before long, found ourselves in amoungst the crowd at a busy bar listening to a live band.
By the end of the set the ice cream stall had closed, so we went to take a look at the ocean. Again, be became distracted by the sound of music! This time, electronic beats were pumping from a club just by the beach. A few minutes later and we were, up the steps, past security and we danced the remainder of the night away...
