The Menai Straits: on foot and by boat

Walking out to meet my expedition group this morning was a real treat. My early Sunday morning stroll took me along the banks of the Menai Straits and was filled with wildlife. The were no humans to be seen, but rabbits scuttled off the path in front of me and herons gracefully floated by as I followed the board walk trail towards Brittania Bridge. Wild flowers were as abundant as the many sea birds and even the cows wanted to come over and say hi. All in all a very peaceful way to start a day.

Thankfully, the group and boats were all still present and had survived the night. There was a leisurely pack up of the camp as the tide did not turn until mid-morning. The increasing wind speed was of some concern and made the paddle back to Menai Bridge rather more exciting than we'd have liked, but it was at least pushing us in the right direction. Paddling under the bridge was definatly the spookiest part as we had to paddle hard over some concerningly large whirl-pools!

Everyone made it through to the safety of the slipway without disaster, but with the increasing winds, we decided to quit there while we were ahead!
