Bells Beach & Torquay

Change of scene today, with the low cloud and heavy rain catching us up from The Grampians.

Set of in search of the famous surf mecca, 'Bells Beach'. After a quick stop to visit 'the other' Anglesea, we parked up on the hill top and settled down to watch some surf action. You only really get a sense of scale of the wave size when you see a surfer taking off! It was inspirational stuff!

Although we've got our wetsuits with us, we've not got round to buying boards yet; but given the temperatures (and the wave size!), we were happy to spectate today.

The waves did look good though!

Spent the afternoon kicking back in a very fine coffee shop in Torquay. The comfy sofa, good wifi and some solid sustenance were just what we were looking for. Even managed to do some work as well as making plans for the next week.

We had hoped to try and get some skiing in over the next few days, when we pass by the Victorian 'Alpine Range'. But the weather is looking pretty lousy there and the sparsley covered slopes are reportedly very busy, so I think we'll pass on by and aim for the Blue Mountians instead where the sun should be shining!
The sun had returned to the coast by mid afternoon, so we strolled leisurely through the town, happily perusing the multitude of surf shops. Before we moved onto Geelong, Clare went to test the water temperature - it was as cold as we'd guessed! Think we'll save surfing until we're further north!
