The pleasure in the problem

Been indoors today - route setting and bouldering.

Which finished with a really great bouldering session. Bouldering how it should be - interesting moves on routes (known as 'problems') that have the satisfying ingredient of needing to be 'worked at' to achieve success. And of course, with a bunch of happy, motivated and psyched climbers! Hearing someone offer a little word of encouragement at just the right moment, when a slip seems inevitable can have the magical power of spurring you upwards and on wards, despite what your judgement (and gravity) thinks.

We set some great new routes in the bouldering wall, that needed multiple tries and different techniques to complete. Passing by the sloping hold in the photos below was the focus of all our attention for quite a while!

There was a lot of close calls, until the problem was eventually solved and the sequence of moves uncovered. But not before a lot of falls! Thank goodness for the matted floor - I 'popped' off a final hold from some height. I was almost horizontal and fell to the ground like a sack of potatoes! Oooof!
