Glen Nevis Explorations

Final day in the highlands today and a full on thaw is in progress. It was -3 degrees two days ago; today it was +11!

Low cloud, drizzle and a tired group meant that a valley walk was the obvious choice today. Glen Nevis provided the ideal final days activity.

It's a short but spectacular hike up to the Steall Falls. The deep gorge leads up to a wide meadow and one of Scotland's most famous waterfalls. After a bit of 'risk assessing' with the group, we all balanced our was across the 'wire bridge' at the top of the gorge section.

We had a classic Aunty Jenny 'hunt the pebble' contest on the riverbank, and one of the group really struck gold with this rock full of Quartz crystals!

Then we said our goodbyes to the mountains and stopped off in Fort William for a bit of souvenir shopping. It turned out that I was a little short when it came to whisky shopping!

At the start of the trip, we had written a 'Scottish Ticklist' of 'must do' things in Scotland and local food was a big feature. I was as surprised as anyone to find that 'deep fried pizza' is actually a real thing up here! I tried a bit, just a to say I had and can confirm that it is as rancid as it sounds!! Eating one of those seems a riskier proposition than mountaineering to me!
