Back on the road - Vegas to Bishop

Started the day with a solid American breakfast of pancakes. It came served complete with a ice cream scoop of butter/marg on top which I must admit, put me off a bit, but once I'd drowned them in maple syrup, they went down just fine! It was an all you can eat menu, but despite high expectations, I only managed a disappointing three.  (Washed down with unlimited coffee of course).

After that morning set up, of dubious nutritional value, I felt a little shakey as we negotiated our way past Ceasars Palace in the daylight, before heading out of town.

And into nowhere land...

I literally didn't need to turn the steering wheel for over a hundred miles! We stopped and switched drivers at one point, and as we stood outside the car, the silence was deafening. We couldn't hear a thing. Not even a breath of wind. It was a bit spooky!

The traffic was ok though...

Although there didn't seem to be much in the way of wind, we saw some cool 'dust devils' (mini tornadoes) out on the plains! Then, late in the afternoon, we crossed a watershed back into California (past some of the oldest trees in the world) and got our first glimpse of the snow capped Eastern Sierra mountains in the distance.

We gradually got closer, after passing several gold mining ghost towns we eventually dropped down into the Owens River Valley.

We made camp at Bishop by sunset, and having had only a few hours sleep last night, were pretty keen to get horizontal soon after.
