Jungle explorers return!

The jungle explorers return! Back in civilisation now after a few days 'in the bush'.

We bid our farewells to our beach side paradise camp, packed up our belongings into our bulging rucksacks and set off into the jungle!

We had a fantastic trek through the bush/jungle on a 10km trek back to the civilisation of Kinloch village. The rucksacks were heavy on our backs but we were glad to be having the adventure of the trek, rather than just taking a boat ride home.

The trek took us through some dense forest that had all kinds of weird plants and tree, with some really big ferns and palm trees. Arriving back at the beach was bliss.

Firstly for being able to get our bags off. Secondly for tucking into food and water from the car, and thirdly for diving into crystal clear waters of Lake Taupo.

Feeling fresh as daisies and invigorated by the swim, we headed off into Taupo to visit the hot springs on the edge of town.

Really bizzare so see hot water just pouring out of the ground! It was to hot to stand in! The hot stream flowed into a bigger river so there was a perfect temperature point between the two. After that, we stopped off to look at a waterfall called Huka Falls which was pretty impressive. Saw a jet boat come up quite close, but would have loved to have seen a raft go over the falls!

We decide then to drive back to the Cambridge house for a freshen up while we had the option! We've been away five or six days, and camped up in the jungle and done a lot of climbing and trekking - our clothes are filthy and we've been washing in lakes so could do with a scrub up!
On the drive home, we stopped off for coffee in the crazy town of Tirau, where many of the buildings are made of corrigated iron and in funny shapes (the tourist office is a giant corrigated iron dog!).

Got back home in time for a few washing loads, showers and some crisp white wine...
