Climbing at La Frasse

With the recent high temperatures, we were not sure if this south facing slab would be too hot to climb at. In the end we decided the night before, to get up and go for it to avoid both heat and crowds.

As it turned out, there was no one there and it was almost nippy! Had to put a long sleeved top on! Ha Ha! Lovely long pitches on great rock.

The climbs on the immaculate slab are wild. Many of the routes are done purely on balance, although, in places, the odd additional hold had been provided! Outrageous! (but also rather handy!)

We had to significantly drop our climbing grade to get accustomed to this style of climbing and by the time we left, we were starting to get the hang of trusting our feet as we padded up the water worn runnels.

All in, we climbed nine pitches before deciding to give our feet a rest. In the next village along, we had a croissant from the bakery sitting looking out at the view as the clouds began to clear. Before heading home, we went down to a gear shop and spent an hour or so looking at books, maps and outdoor gear. We amassed quite a basket full of goodies before realising that neither of us had any money with us! Rats! We'll have to go for a return trip next week....!
