565km after setting out from Copenhagen Airport, we’ve made it to Gothenburg! Delighted. We breakfasted outside as usual but had the novelty of dining inside this evening.
As we were packing up camp, I noticed how little we have with us. With possessions amounting to three small bags, we’ve been perfectly happy with what we’ve had with us for the last two weeks. Sometimes simple living really is best.
There was just a short section by the sea side before we headed into a more urban environment. The wind was blowing quite hard, which put us off going for a final swim - instead we kept peddling towards the hub.
Passing under the bridge in Gothenburg felt like we’d crossed the finish line of a marathon!
We rolled straight into a cool area of the city and got established on a comfy street side sofa with a celebratory drink. While we were there, two Australian cyclist stopped by to check out our bikes. They were the first really friendly folk we’d chatted to in a while. Unbelievably, (considering they were from Sydney), they said they’d been too hot on their cycle over from Stockholm. We assured them that it was unusually hot this summer.
After a well deserved rest, we went to see a few of the local sights.
Starting with the Fort that over looks the city. It was a short, leg burning ride up to the top, but the views were worth it.
Before going to our Airbnb, we had a big feed in a cafe on the street, where we could enjoy some people and car watching. The Swedes really seem to love their Cadillacs!
With bellies full of gormet burgers, we rode our way over to our apartment in the suburbs, where a hot shower has never felt to good!
