Lleyn Peninsula Surfing Trip

We've been away for the last few days on a surfing mini break to the Lleyn Peninsula! After a surf day (and some birthday crepes) in Rhosnigr on Sunday, we headed west to a little 'artists cabin' by the sea in Llanbedrog that Clare had sneakily organised.

We arrived at dusk and settled in, by cracking some champagne and having a delicious dinner.

Next morning it was a little damp, but the view from the cabin made up for the lack of blue sky!

We started the day with a walk down to the beach and a look around Wales' oldest art gallery...

Where Loddington resident, Chris Prout's work was centre stage!

Next stop was Aberdarren to check the surf (hardly any!)..

Then Whistling Sands - a beautiful little cove that must be amazing when the swell is a little bigger!

Next stop on the tour was the huge beach known as Hell's Mouth. There were some big waves rolling in that were dumping hard on the beach! I managed to get a few fast rides, but Clare got all the glory as she could catch the big waves and get off again before getting trashed! She even got partially barrelled inside one big wave before accelerating out the end of the tube! Amazing!

After a brew (and some of the remaining birthday cake) in the van, it was off to Abersoch to look for new wetsuits. I resisted the urge to buy this one...

We had dinner at the pub near the cabin and next morning were back at Hell's Mouth, where climbing into a dripping wet, cold wetsuit took some serious psyching up! (Note, next time hang them up over night, don't leaves them in a bucket of water!)

The waves were smaller, but we both got some fast rides!...

Before returning to the comfort of the van for hot drinks and food!

Before we left, we took a final walk down to the beach in the sunshine and watched the few remaining surfers.

We stopped in Abersoch again for coffee and a little shopping in the surf shops before heading east back to The Cottage. A totally fantastic birthday mini break!
