The blazing morning sun and few nasty mosquitoe and horsefly bites were enough for us to not hang around the campsite this morning. So we started the day with our now familiar route of cycling to the edge of an island and catching a ferry.
This short ride actually took us in the wrong direction, but we fancied exploring the nearby small island of Seglinge. It felt really secluded and once again, we found a small beach to ourselves. However, like many beaches around here, the water looked inviting but was actually only waist deep.
Still, it was a good place to cool off, wake up and we enjoyed chatting for a while sitting on the end of the jetty before moving on.
We crossed over to Kumlinge via another long, low causeway, stopping briefly again to cool off with a swim near a harbour half way through. There was a small shop shortly after, where we purchased two cans of ice cold drinks and sat outside under a tree to drink them straight away.
At the northern end of Kumlinge, a ferry took us across the waters in a westerly direction to Vårdö. This was quite a long crossing and we passed by hundreds of tiny islands of rock only a few meters higher than the water.
We’d decided to head to the only campsite on the island, which involved a final 8km cycle north. It was actually a really nice ride and for our efforts, we were rewarded with a tent pitched right by the sea and a hot shower. We also discovered that we were just in time for last orders at the camp bar kitchen, where we decided that some cooked food and a glass of chilled wine was in order. The luxury of sitting on a comfy chair at a table felt almost as good as the (delicious) food. It had been a big, hot day, but we’d seen some great sights, travelled a large distance arrived somewhere beautiful.
